Grease - Temperature Limits
Grease is a combination of mineral or synthetic oil and thickener - also called soap. Rust and oxidation inhibitors are also often added.
- Oil content ranges 70 - 97% - commonly about 80%
The temperature limit for a grease is limited by the oil and thickener used.
Grease Thickener | Temperature Limits | |
---|---|---|
(oF) | (oC) | |
Aluminum | 180 | 82 |
Barium | 225 | 107 |
Calcium | 170 | 77 |
Lithium | 300 | 149 |
Sodium | 250 | 121 |
Synthetics | < 500 | < 260 |
